There's a quick way to make this simple. Get both numbers to have an equal denominator. Since 3 goes into 6 twice and 6 goes into 6 once, multiply 1/3 by 2. This gives us 2/6.
Now, we have 9 2/6 + 4 5/6.
Combine whole numbers first.
9 + 4 = 13.
Now add the fractions.
2/6 + 5/6 = 7/6 or 1 1/6.
Add the whole number to our sum.
13 + 1 1/6 = 14 1/6.
14 1/6 is your answer.
