I realized that being able to draw was not an ability granted only to the gifted few. Drawing involved mastering a few
basic skills and, above all, learning to see. Realizing that making art involved learned skills and not a set of innate
gifts gave me the courage to keep practicing those skills. To my surprise and delight, my confidence expanded as my
facility grew.
