If there is a fire-alarm beeping in the background of your video because of a low battery warning, it is a type of physical noise.
What is physical noise?
Physical noise is interference that originates from an external source or from the environment in which communication takes place. A static phone call, meeting rooms in a building near an airport flight path, conversations during a presentation, not muting the sound while typing during an online meeting all constitute physical noise.
Physical noise can also be deafening in nature. Pop-ups create visual noise in the online environment, just like when you're in an online meeting, a co-worker gestures outside your office window.
Sometimes you can control the physical noise, such as asking participants to turn down the volume when they're not speaking right at the start of an online meeting. Other times, you won't have control over the physical noise. As a communicator, realize that you must be prepared to deal with physical noise.
