Jesus main teaching and why and how was this teaching a contradiction of the Jewish  law when asked which commandment was the most important Jesus said Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it thou shalt love  as thyself.

Jewish law is the focus of many passages in the Gospels. According to one set, especially prominent in the Sermon on the Mount Matthew 5–7, Jesus admonished his followers to observe the law unwaveringly Matthew 5:17–48. According to another set, he did not adhere strictly to the law himself and even transgressed current opinions about some aspects of it, especially the Sabbath it is conceivable that both were true, that he was extremely strict about marriage and divorce (Matthew 5:31–32; Mark 10:2–12) but less stringent about the Sabbath. The study of Jesus and the law is, like any other study of law, highly technical. In general, the legal disputes in the Gospels fall within the parameters of those of 1st-century Judaism. Some opposed minor healing on the Sabbath such as Jesus is depicted as performing, but others permitted it. Similarly, the Sadducees regarded the Pharisees’ observance of the Sabbath as too lax. There also were many disagreements in 1st-century Judaism about purity.

During His ministry on earth  Jesus Christ taught His followers the way back to God, giving purpose to their lives and to ours today. Within Jesus Christ’s teachings we find the plan for our happiness, our redemption, and our salvation a divine blueprint that includes faith in Christ, repentance, baptism, keeping God’s commandments, receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. These are the saving principles taught by Jesus Christ, the bedrock on which His Gospel is built.
