Heidemarie Shwermer is known as the woman who did not use money for more than 16 years. She moved from place to place and long term friends and new acquaintances took her in. She also relied on others for clothes and sometimes for food.

She has however faced criticism for her lifestyle such as when she was being interviewed by an Italian television station. The host was so inquisitive and didn't believe her that she put her hand into Ms. Schwermer's briefcase to confirm that indeed she moved without money.

Ms. Schwermer in response, stopped doing television interviews for a while because she said that she could not handle direct criticism. She therefore stopped interviews because she had to deal with criticism from others.
