While the oceanic crust covers about two-thirds of the earth, However, water required by humans for drinking and consumption is freshwater which is only 3% of the total oceanic crust.

The scarcity of water on land is due to the shortage of freshwater and the varying climate and weather around the world.

Temperate regions seems to suffer more as they have very little amount of Rainfall to recharge ground water, rivers, lakes and other water bodies.

Also, the discharge of waste and contamination of water bodies have contributed to shortage in the amount of usable water.

Therefore, only 3% of the earth's water is fresh and suitable for several use.
